Growing up, I struggled with my weight, especially after I stopped playing water polo. My self-esteem dwindled as my weight climbed, and I constantly felt like I was fighting a losing battle with my body. Then, in 2018, my life took a turn I never anticipated. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an autoimmune condition that brought pain, uncertainty, and significant lifestyle changes.
To manage the inflammation in my stomach, I was prescribed rounds of strong steroids while doctors worked to find the right medication for me. It took seven tries before the right medication finally came along in 2021, but by then, I had undergone multiple cycles of steroids, which wreaked havoc on my hunger, mood, and body weight. At my heaviest, I weighted almost 125 kg (275 lbs).
When my doctors told me I needed to change my diet, I took it as a challenge. I began cooking for myself and my family, cutting out processed foods and embracing fresh, wholesome ingredients. Though the medication made it hard to lose weight, cooking became my therapy and my creative outlet. I learned how to craft meals from scratch that nourished my body and soul.
In 2022, with my health stabilized, I finally felt ready to focus on reclaiming my body. In just four months, I went from 125 kg to around 90 kg (198 lbs), all thanks to the habits I had built in the kitchen. Cooking was not only a means to an end but a joyful part of my day - a way to take control of my health and well-being while exploring new flavors and techniques.
In the meantime, I discovered a deep love for cooking and honed techniques that helped me elevate every dish to perfection. I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Along the way, I realized that being a great home cook isn’t just about skill - it’s also about having the right tools and quality ingredients. This inspired me to focus on gathering essential cooking tools and exploring the best local sources for fresh ingredients.
One of my greatest joys is making sourdough bread. Over time, it has become a true passion of mine. From classic loaves to creative sourdough recipes, I love experimenting and sharing my successes (and lessons) with others.
Over the years, friends and family kept asking, “Why don’t you start a cooking blog?” So here I am! BloomingDishes.com is my way of combining my love for food, my journey to health, and my desire to help others. I hope to provide valuable advice and inspiration to everyone who stops by. :)
